Scarlet: Created in the interest of "education"..for which you received no monetary compensation,
your last compilation 'Fenriz Presents: The Best Of Old-School Black Metal' continues to receive high praise and excellent reviews. Now that the third wave/generation of blakk metal is in full swing
much of which sounds like blakk thrash, will we see the release of your '80's thrash' compilation soon?

Fenriz: i got so many stupid questions from press and "fans" about that black metal compilation,
that i don't think i'll bother to make a thrash compilation. instead i dj thrash on the radio.
goddamnit, when other musical genres release compilations people SIT DOWN, SHUT UP
and LEARN. if i get one more stupid question because i do people a favour i will surely die of
an anger-heartattakk.

Scarlet: Have you ever been approached to do radio?

Fenriz: of course, i have done a lot of radio, but i didn't want the national radio show on NRK (norway's answer to BBC) that i was offered, as i have no time for it. i've  worked full time since i was 16, and it is more important for me to be able to listen to music there, than to have to deal with radio interviews with other people etc....fuck that shit.

Scarlet: 'The Hank Armadillo Hour' ....who would you want as a sidekick?

Fenriz: some of my friends in my scene. but it's not gonna happen at this point in time.

Scarlet: If you had the opportunity to take over the airwaves of this planet for an hour
which issues would you address and what music would you play?

Fenriz: GET A LIFE would be the main message. and i would play anything from
ADRENALIN o.d, COCTEAU TWINS, DR SHRINKER and GERD & OTTO.

Scarlet: Are more 'one man band' projects like Isengard a possibility from you in the future?

Fenriz: not since '95 when i got burned out (i think i did 15 albums in 5 years) have i really thought about doing another one man band. i've been struggling like a MF to get it back together for 10 hellish years..
and all focus is on Darkthrone right now.

Scarlet: The upcoming 'Lord of Chaos' film now being shot in Norway by Danish director Hans
Fjellestad, good or bad for metal in general? http://www.hansfjellestad.com

Fenriz: It just makes me angry. these things are bad for metal, the book was
nothing for my life and i am not wasting anymore energy on this FARCE.

Scarlet: Although although Darkthrone are the kings of deconstruction and regression, there's quite alot of music that is more 'dimensional' (as opposed to 'technical') albeit in a 'raw' way. Would you say (overall, not every song /album) Darkthrone is a bit more layered, multifaceted and/or multidimensional
> than most first generation black metal i.e.: Venom, Celtic Frost and the later Bathory?

Fenriz: i feel that the black metal, or BASTARD METAL if you like, of the 80s was way freer
> and more multifaceted than the 90's misunderstood streamlined trend sound. Bathory is really only borderlining A BIT on Blood Fire Death, the 2 first are TOTAL primitive blacknroll with necro sound. HAIL!!! i feel that we are usually NOT compared to these ancient gods, but we have always only been influenced by them, and with THE CULT IS ALIVE we are definately in their landscape side by side forever. After 13 albums and 19 years of playing we know how to play our instruments. we are basically only influenced by bands that were in the beginning of their careers, and therefore didn't have
our "playing abilities". but if someone makes a complicated riff for Darkthrone, it's Ted....NOT me.

Scarlet: In a 2005 interview on nocturnalcult.com, Ted (Nocturno Culto) speaks of a video project:
"....It will just be a strange moody film about inspirations, blackmetal, Darkthrone and
strange people and Norwegian culture..." This sounds great, is there any footage of you
doing your 2 turntable-mixer recording thing?

Fenriz: no, very little footage of me. At least Ted is not making a F*I*L*M...
GODDAMN VISIONARIES....

Scarlet: Would you ever consider acting in a feature film?....something like an updated remake of
'The Man Who Fell To Earth'
http://www.teenagewildlife.com/Othermedia/Film/TMWFTE1976/..easy to envision you as 'Tommy'
the extraterrestrial in the scene where he's surrounded by all of the multimedia screens.

Fenriz: oh brother. i don't have time to check links or stuff i'm afraid, but thanks for trying, hehe.
acting..i am unable to lie....

Scarlet: When one reads your past interviews and stories of you running around in pink pants
and playing pranks on the unsuspecting metal tourists etcit quickly becomes obvious that you
have quite a talent for comedy, would you ever consider writing a sitcom?

Fenriz: silver pants..fancy pants is all there is, which is an expression that can be used for
"great" studio sound and no rawness..rawness obsolete...hehe.
WHY DO PEOPLE PICTURE ME DOING ANYTHING ON SCREEN?
PEOPLE FORCE ME, I USUALLY SAY NO. GET A LIFE.

Scarlet: One of my favorite Darkthrone tracks is 'Kathaarian Life Code', your chanting in the intro
is so pure and hypnotic and I recently read that it's on the soundtrack of the film 'Demon Lover'
Is there any other DT music on soundtracks that we may not have heard of,
such as indies, etc.?

Fenriz: no, i doubt that very much.

Scarlet: Hope the use of your old quotes don't annoy you too much but a few of these are
real gems: "I don't believe in life philosophy - one always changes. But I believe in the primitiveness
of black metal and not showing your mother how good one can play one’s instruments.
Nerds destroy punk."

Fenriz: i fully stand behind this statement!!!

Scarlet: In every past interview I've read, you're a fountain of information as far as
obscure yet excellent music of all genres go.
Would you care to mention any new or old bands worth checking out?

Fenriz: too many to mention. but what have i discovered the last 10 days? CORRUPT 'silence
equals death' ep (sweden 2005) true old school thrash, MOUNTAIN nantucket sleighride (usa, '71) i
knew mountain from before, another great album here! UFO force it ('75) ahh, what a raw rock album. Michael Schenker here i come NUTZ "nutz too" 1975. can a band called NUTZ be any good? incredibly, YES! THRUST fist held high (usa '84) speed/black. fantastic! thanks Oscar.

Scarlet: Ok, I'm going to wrap this up by saying thanks to you Fenriz.
Hail Darkthrone!: One of the Seven Wonders of the Metal World.

Fenriz: argh..

Scarlet: Any last words?

Fenriz: hail REAL METAL! hail DREAM DEATH and TROUBLE
