14-01-2006 Darkthrone: A Blaze In The Northern
Sky review by ©Scarlet Metal & whoresofchaos.com The
Darkthrone 'cult is alive' indeed, thanks to the black seeds of
perfection that were sown with the first release of this album back in
1991. If truth be told, no written word will ever do this quixotically
brilliant black metal masterpiece justice. Withstanding the test of time,
Darkthrone continues to be revered as the paradigm of 'second generation'
raw Norwegian black metal. Although 'Transylvanian Hunger', is most often
referred to as this band's magnum opus, 'A Blaze In The Northern Sky'
is equally magnificent in it's own right. For me and many
other fans of black metal, this album includes much of unparalleled eerie
beauty of Darkthrone in all of it's gritty base blakk metal glory!
©Scarlet and whoresofchaos.com Darkthrone's second cd,
also referred to as 'The Second Darkthrone Debut', was released in 1991
by Peaceville Records.
